We left by 10:30 in the morning, looking in my side mirrors glancing on last glimpse of my hometown. The animals were sedated and ready for the big road trip. Forest gave a whole new look to “snoop dog”.
We crossed over at the USA/Canadian bridge and took I-75 north towards Mackinaw Bridge. Upper Michigan is beautiful, and surprisingly clean to its counter parts of Detroit. Just before we crossing over the Macinaw bridge we stopped at a small gas station to fill up and received a service I haven’t witnessed in over 20 years. It was a full serviced gas station. My gas was pumped, my oil checked, and two young men climbed up stools and cleaned my motor home windshield. It was refreshing and brought back memories of my youth.
As we crossed the Mackinaw bridge I smiled while remembering stories my mom used to tell me of her and dad’s camping trips for showing miniature schnauzers across Canada. One of those stories is when they travelled across this very bridge and my dads knuckles turned white from him holding the steering wheel so tight from his fear of heights. It’s those little memories that get me through their loss.
We arrived into Pancake bay around 5:30 pm. We set up camp and had made dinner of pickerel, rice and candied carrots from our garden at home. We turned into bed early. Annika and I watched a movie to settle in and relaxed after a long day on the road.
Parker got up early to go fishing. He caught to small perch. It is a beautiful campsite. I was surprise that it was still warm and the leaves weren’t changing yet. I went for a morning walk and enjoyed the sights. So many thoughts rushing through my head. But the butterflies of anxiety are gone. On the road you experience stress , but I will take this stress over the stress I left behind. If I would have stayed I would have lost myself forever. Day two on the road here we go……
